Sorry, there was a problem flagging this post. If you went way overboard with the paste it will act more like an insulator instead of a heat conductor. such high temps are reducing its lifespan, don't let it do so unnecessarily. For example your old motherboard had hm77 the new has a cheaper hm70.
I did not understand yet how to solve this problem? Some ICs have internal thermal shutdown -- especially regulator ICs.
