What can cause this last stage to fail ? I am using latest DSM version. I tried your suggestions but didn't change anything. When I want to shutdown or reboot the NAS, it initiates the shutdown proces, but at the end it does not power-off (or reboot).

This info helps, also the fact that you actually get a blue screen crash instead of it just shutting down or rebooting.Did you try using different RAM?The only issue is that Status and HDD leds are on and continous green.
