The only workaround I found was to launchWindows Live Messenger, and very quickly switch itfrom "Compact View" into "Full View" at which point the behaviourceased. Not sure what the fault was, but now its working. Hope this helps. as shown in my previous post, the machine slowed down to excruciating and live messenger never opened.
